FINLEY'S ROW, lost manor in Ewhurst
The Domesday Book form is an interpolation in the entry for Wolverton. The name appears to be hypothetical Old English 'Finleah'='woodheap clearing/wood' or 'Finaleah'='woodpeckers' wood'; unless, as Gover suggests, a form 909 'thingleage' refers to the same place, in which case it is 'assembly clearing/wood'. For this to be plausible, we would have to show that this was the meeting place of Kingsclere hundred.
